Management Board
Unconfirmed Minutes from the last Management Board meeting, held on 5th July 2012 are available to CEC Group Members on the CEC Web Site.
CEC Elastomers
The ACEA F&L Group reviewed the presentation given by Sebastien Vautier of PSA at their last meeting and the proposals received general support. It has also been reviewed at an Industry meeting held between ACEA, ATC and ATIEL and these organisations are now studying the recommendations internally. Clarification has been requested from ACEA that the proposed changes meet the realistic needs of the European OEMs. This will be considered during the next ACEA meeting scheduled for early September. ACEA will also establish the level of support from OEMs in using the new suite of Elastomer tests in place of in-house tests.
TDG-T-108 – FZG Pitting Test
FZG have carried out tests to define pre-investigation runs for two field oils. The low and high reference oils will be selected at the next meeting in September in order to run further reference tests.
TDG-L-107 – M271 EVO Sludge Test
The Reference Fuels Tender has now been issued and is available to view on the CEC Web Site.
TDG-L-106 – Oil Dispersion at Medium Temperature for Passenger Car DI Diesel Engines
All sponsors have agreed to pay a small amount more in order that extra tests can be carried out to introduce a replacement reference oil. The Board has accepted Phase 1 of the development for the Viscosity parameter and is considering further clarification regarding the Piston Merit calculations.
TDG-L-105 – Low Temperature Pumpability Test
Data has been produced that confirms different laboratories can produce similar results; however a significant number of results reported are not in line with expectations. These results are being investigated.
TDG-L-104 – OM646 Effects of Biodiesel
CEC Management Board representatives attended the last full TDG-L-104 meeting to support the Group in the development of a good plan to move the test forward.
A TDG-L-104 Task Force has recommended a number of changes to the previous test to develop a suitable discriminating biodiesel piston cleanliness test. A proposed development plan has been produced, based on these recommendations which the CEC Management Board supports.
The test development will continue at APL. The CEC Secretariat is checking with all the original sponsoring companies to determine the level of additional funding required. As soon as exact funding levels can be established and financial administration is completed the test development plan will be put into action.
TDG-L-103 – Biological Degradability of Lubricants in Natural Environment
This new test has been accepted into CEC. The Test Method is being checked and finalised and will be published as CEC L-103-12 and on sale for Euro 2,000. Upon publication the Group will move to surveillance status and be known as SG-L-103. New Members to SG-L-103 will be most welcome.
Reference Oils Groups
There have been some recent issues with the labeling of CEC Reference Oils used for calibration to set up equipment for a test. When used for this purpose it is clear that the targets must be listed on the reference oil container so that machines can be set correctly. Other Reference Oils need to be used for Round Robin or Test Monitoring purposes and these should be supplied without targets.
Oxidation Stability Test
ACEA, ATC and ATIEL have discussed the new Oxidation test and are drawing up new Terms of Reference in line with Industry requirements. If you are interested in joining this potential new Test Development Group, please email the CEC Secretariat.
Test Monitoring System
The new guidelines for the TMS are in the process of being checked ready for publication and there is to be a major upgrade of the CEC Test Monitoring System to improve the process of data input for users.
